Joan Marie Hessen Strittmatter Faux

Joan Marie Hessen Strittmatter Faux, was born in Newark and raised in Bloomfield, where she attended St. Thomas the Apostle Grammar School. She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and East Orange General School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a registered nurse.

She served as a 1st Lt. in the U. S. Army Nursing Corp. from 1954-57. She served with distinction during the Korean Conflict.

Joan worked as an RN at Clara Maass Medical Center for 45 years. She was the night nursing supervisor for 37 years, retiring in 1994.

Joan was very active in the Irish Community. She was a member and Past President of the Women of Irish Heritage, a member of the John Cryan Association, The Giblin Association, The McGovern Association, Friends of Brian Boru, Inc., the James F. Ackerman Federation at Jersey Shore Medical Center, The Jerry Lynch Association, The Garden State Irish Festival Committee, Project Children Committee, the Belmar/Lake Como Saint Patrick's Day Parade Committee and the East Orange General Hospital Alumna Association.

 She was a Founding Member, Charter Member, and Past Vice President of the Women of Irish Heritage Jersey Shore, Inc. She was honored as Irish Woman of the Year 1999 by the Brian Boru. She was honored for her outstanding dedication to the Frank McGovern Association in 2002 and honored by being selected Deputy Grand Marshall of the Belmar/Lake Como St. Patrick's Day Parade, 2005. Above all Joan dedicated her life to loving her son, Edward Thomas.Strittmatter.
